As a frequent traveler, I've learned a few things, and the biggest lesson is this: your vacation starts the moment you leave your driveway. That's why I'm done with driving for hours just to deal with the chaos of traffic and massive hub airports.
My go-to? Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV).
If you haven't flown out of SHV lately, you are seriously missing out on the easiest way to travel. Here’s a look at my personal checklist for why flying SHV first is simply the best decision.

The SHV Advantage: Easy In, Easy Out
The main reason I love SHV is its sheer convenience. It's the regional charm without the rookie feel. You know I love all things Texas but let’s face it, the Dallas roads are constantly under construction. We have to give ourselves an extra hour when headed to one of those airports because who knows if there will be backed up traffic? Getting to the SHV from East Texas is all peaceful, tree-lined roads.
• Parking is a Breeze: We pull into the airport, and we are parked and walking to the terminal in under five minutes. No crowded shuttle buses, no massive parking garages, no confusing signs. The long-term lot is pretty packed but there seems to always be free spots. And by free spots, I mean room for your truck somewhere. It’s all free game… park on the sidewalks or on the grass… it’s fine.
• The Best TSA Experience: Forget the epic security lines you see on the news. At SHV, the security process is quick and efficient. I spend less time worrying about being late. I don’t know why they don’t smile but you only have to see them for 5 minutes.
• A Single Terminal: Zero Stress: You can’t get lost here. There’s one terminal, which means check-in, security, and gates are all easy to find. I get to my gate with extra time to grab a drink and settle in. There is even an open-air smoking section after the security check point! Of course, the downside is fewer restaurant and shopping options.
Your Ticket to the World (Without the Layover Drama) They’ve done a great job of securing direct routes to the places I need to be.

• The Hub Hops are Perfect: SHV gets you directly to major airline hubs. Want to go to New York, London, or San Francisco? Just hop on a non-stop to Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Charlotte (CLT), Houston (IAH), or Denver (DEN). It makes the connecting flight simple and reduces the chance of missing a connection.
• Direct Fun Destinations: Need a quick escape? I love that I can grab a non-stop flight right to Las Vegas (LAS) or hit up the music scene with a direct flight to Nashville (BNA). They also offer great seasonal flights to beach spots like Destin/Fort Walton Beach (VPS) and Orlando/Sanford (SFB), making quick family trips super easy.

Between the quick check-in and the direct access to so many major cities, Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) is my secret weapon for stress-free travel. The ticket price may be a little higher but if you consider the drive, the parking, and the airport conveniences, it more than makes up for the price.
If you’re planning your next adventure, do yourself a favor: Fly SHV First. You’ll thank yourself when you’re relaxing at your gate instead of sprinting to it!
