Traveling direct from Shreveport Airport was a short 3-hour flight to get to another world. The drive to the Regional Airport was much easier than the drive to Dallas. See more on that travel option in the Shreveport Airport Blog; But for now…

It was time for us to enjoy the excitement of Las Vegas without the crowds and lines in Henderson, Nevada. I got some good medical news, and my nephew was having a birthday party so what better reasons to travel? I was a little nervous about the hectic scene in Vegas. The Green Valley Ranch Resort, Casino & Spa offers a luxurious escape. From the moment you arrive, Green Valley Ranch captivates with its stunning Mediterranean-inspired architecture, lush landscaping, and an ambiance of sophisticated grandeur. Many rooms offer breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip, the majestic mountains, or the resort's stunning pools.

For those seeking thrilling entertainment, the casino offers slot machines, table games, sports book, Bingo and Keno.  GVR also rivals the strip hotels when it comes to entertainment, featuring live music, special events, and a huge movie theater. The resort also offers an arcade and a separate kid's zone. I didn't feel like I was giving up much by not staying on the strip, in fact, I felt classy. Beyond the excitement, GVR is a true oasis for relaxation and recreation.

I was able to get an on-site blow-out at the salon and spent quality time at the spa. Just a few steps in, you can see why the spa was award-winning. This luxurious sanctuary offers a comprehensive menu of treatments, from soothing massages and invigorating facials to rejuvenating body wraps. All of the options were on the pricey side. And their spa had an odd design that required you to move between a basement floor and an upper deck by a large staircase. There was an elevator available, it just wasn’t as convenient. The plush locker rooms offered the traditional showers and relaxation lounges, but it also offered a secluded jacuzzi tub and makeup stations with hairdryers and curlers. The lounges were stocked with chilled Fiji water, nuts, dried fruit, infused water, and hot tea. I could have waited longer for my treatment just to finish the magazine article that I started reading. I enjoyed a mud wrap while Joe got a deep tissue massage in a separate room. The treatments were great and then we met back at the co-ed jacuzzi. We relaxed for a few minutes by the outdoor fireplace while sipping some juice and nibbling on an orange chocolate cookie before going back upstairs to private outdoor pool. We were there early in the morning so we had the place completely to ourselves but even when the pool service started around 10:30, I could have really gone for a mimosa. That was not an option although they had a plethora of mixed drinks and bottle service available.

The "backyard" oasis was stunning and featured a sand-bottom pool and private cabanas. Rest assured, this refreshing retreat is also accessible, with pool lifts available to assist guests in and out of the water. Everyone can enjoy a refreshing dip or simply bask in the glorious Nevada sunshine. Although, kids… lots of them! I’ll thought I would stick to the adult pool, which I was so happy the resort offerred. Yes, that’s in addition to the Spa pool!

We were prepared for a gastronomic journey with reservations at the sushi and streak restaurant but we were happy to see the options at the food court included pretzels and other casual eateries. The time goes so fast that we actually cancelled our upscale Steakhouse reservation and opted for a quick slice of pizza instead. The casino did have a restaurant under construction but they didn’t remove their digital advertisements for pancakes. Apparently, that is the only restaurant that can make pancakes even if they are on other restaurant menus and the pictures had me craving! The sushi restaurant was divine including Wagu gyoza and oxe tail fried rice.

The breakfast at the Grill several days later was severely lacking. Our meal was nearly $50, ridiculously skimpy, served on disposable plates with plastic forks and was little more than heated frozen hash browns and microwaved waffles.  Beverage options were coffee or soda, no juice.

The resort offered a fitness center as well as random yoga class offerings but you can easily get your steps in by walking  the massive property. I remember feeling like the hallway to the room was as long as the “Red Rum” hallway and then it bent and revealed another hall, just as long!

Walking the property, it seemed normal to watch a wedding at one of the beautiful sites like an onsite vineyard or two-story grand staircase. On the walk to the casino, it seemed normal to walk past three or four receptions.

In essence, the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Casino & Spa is more than just a place to stay; it's a destination where luxury, excitement, and tranquility converge.
