Prost, Y'all! Kilgore turned up the Oktoberfest fun
Historic Downtown Kilgore was transformed into a little Bavarian village with a hearty helping of Texas hospitality. We debated traveling south for some famous Oktoberfest activities but we are leaving on vacation in a week so a day trip seemed more logical. Plus, I went to high school in Kilgore and haven’t been back to town since I moved home. Sounds like a couple good reasons to make the drive to Kilgore. The keg was tapped and a festive energy filled the air. Spirited pol

Shellfishly Good: Is This Dallas Seafood Spot Worth the Splurge?
Truluck’s in Uptown We were craving some seafood yesterday and I had to go to Dallas for a doctor’s appointment anyway so I was thinking, “I know it’s not the on the coast, but it is one of America’s largest city so maybe we can find fresh seafood in Dallas that’s not battered and fried”. I was hopeful anyway after a quick Internet search. I asked a couple of the nurses at the doctor's office if they had ever been to this restaurant and they were shared wonderful memories of

Plot Twist: My Day Began With Changed Plans, But Ended With an Incredible Day
We got up early and dressed up for an exciting day highlighted by vintage train ride through the piney woods of Palestine Texas. After a couple roadside bathroom breaks, I looked at the navigation plan which showed we would arrive at 11:15. The train was scheduled to leave at 11:00 and the boarding pass window closed 10 minutes prior. We were not going to make it. So, now we hit the internet to find out if there was any other reason to visit Palestine or should we stop in Tyl

Regrets, I have a few from my Chip and Jo Waco trip
After completing my physical therapy and getting to a point in recovery that I did not think I would return to, we decided to go on a celebratory road trip to Waco Tx. We had a doctor's appointment in Dallas, Texas anyway and the distance to Waco would not be that much further. We are retired, so why not? We had seen the home renovation show on TV and were familiar with the couple. I wouldn’t call us fans but it was probably going to be a fun trip. Our appointment was on

5 Things You Need to Know Before Visiting the Waco Amish Village That’s NOT Amish (Homestead Heritage)
I heard of a little Amish farmers market that I wanted to go to that was only on Saturdays, so we were going to need to stagger out this trip for a little so that I can be there for the Saturday. With these physical limitations, I get tired quickly so I’ll need to plan recovery time in between activities. Today was destined to be the highlight of this trip. In my mind, the little Amish village was complete with horse-drawn, carriages, and people living without technology. Th

My Czech-tastic Trip to West (comma) Texas
Kolaches and Klobasneks, oh my! This little town was a detour stop for us on a trip to Waco, Texas. I had heard the original Kolaches were in West, Texas with a large Czech community so I thought, why not? I was surprised by this cute little town because there were a lot of little boutiques and cute shopping to do beyond just getting a kolache and learning about the Czech history, but let’s talk about kolaches for a second. Apparently a kolache is the name for the little fru
