About Me

Welcome to Texas Retiree Blog! I'm the voice behind this blog, and while my retirement journey looks very different from what I originally planned, it's proving to be an adventure all its own.

For decades, I lived the high-octane life in San Diego, culminating in an executive position as the CIO for a large Federal organization. When I retired early, my global itinerary was ready—I envisioned spending my golden years exploring every corner of the world.

Life, however, had a surprise for me. Soon after hanging up my executive hat, I was hit with four strokes and diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. My days now involve a lot of time in doctor's offices, appointments, and transplant meetings.

But here’s the thing: I refuse to let my conditions confine me.

Instead of letting this unexpected turn lead to depression, I've redefined what "adventure" means. Now, from my base in Texas, I focus on trips that are manageable, rejuvenating, and deeply satisfying:

• Day trips exploring the amazing history and hidden gems of the Lone Star State.

• Short flights to nearby destinations.

• Relaxed cruises that depart from Texas ports.

This blog is about proving that a full life doesn't require a full passport—sometimes, a full tank of gas and a good outlook are all you need. It’s about finding the joy and adventure in the journey, no matter how many unexpected detours it takes. I hope you’ll roll along with me!
